San Diego, CA — Today, Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) joined Barona Tribal Chairman Raymond Welch to present the Barona Education Grant of $5,000 to Encanto Elementary School. Accepting the award was Principal Audra Mandler and a few students that would benefit.
“One of my priorities is closing the academic achievement gap, a long-standing detriment to students of color,” said Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber. “I extend my gratitude to the Barona Band of Mission Indians for aligning with this mission of closing academic achievement gaps through this impactful grant program. Congratulations to Encanto Elementary School, where I attended for elementary school many years ago. Go Eagles!”
Each year, the Barona Education Grant provides an opportunity for schools in underserved communities to fund educational projects that promote academic achievement. Encanto Elementary School, which is located in the 79th Assembly District, was nominated by Assemblymember Weber to receive the funds for an online math intervention program for all 2nd through 5th grade students, and for teachers to receive the appropriate classroom materials.
