Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber Issues Statement on Protecting Patients in the Care of Trusted Doctors

For immediate release:

SAN DIEGO—Today, Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-La Mesa) issued the following statement regarding doctors’ whose licenses have been reinstated following sexual misconduct against patients:

“Physicians are some of the most trusted professionals in our society. Unfortunately, there are a small number of physicians who have committed this heinous crime.

As a licensed medical professional, I find it unfathomable and disgraceful that these actions have occurred with licensed individuals in California. It is further disgraceful and disheartening that these individuals were able to get their licenses back after committing these crimes.  Doctors are expected and required to practice ethically while prioritizing health and safety for all.

The recent Los Angeles Times article reveals shocking and appalling incidents of at least 10 California doctors regaining their license after losing them for sexual misconduct

The time to act is now, and I plan to act immediately with legislation that prevents doctors who have committed sexual misconduct on patients from getting their license back again.”
