Assemblymember Weber Statement on Governor Newsom’s Reproductive Health Package Funding
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) issued the following statement:
“Today, Governor Gavin Newsom announced his reproductive health package ahead of his May Revise to the state budget. I am elated that he has prioritized the urgency of protecting women’s reproductive health care by including $40 million in funding for my bill AB 2134, the California Abortion and Reproductive Equity Act. This bill and funding appropriation would provide grants to providers who offer reproductive and sexual health care to patients who lack coverage, assuring that our most vulnerable low income and communities of color have access to this essential care. We thank our AB 2134 sponsors; ACCESS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE, Essential Access Health, National Health Law Program (NHeLP), NARAL Pro-Choice California and Planned Parenthood Affiliates of California (PPAC)” said Assemblymember Akilah Weber, M.D

“I stand with California’s Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins, Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, and Governor Gavin Newsom in support of a constitutional amendment to enshrine the a woman’s right to choose in California. Reproductive care is health care and we must make sure that all women have access to safe and affordable abortions.”
Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber Issues Statement on SB 871 (Pan)
Today, I stand in agreement with the decision from Senator Dr. Richard Pan that his bill SB 871 will no longer be moving through the legislative process. As scientists and physicians, it is our responsibility to prevent and respond to public health crises through facts and data. The reality is, the data show a dire need for the state and medical community to focus more on vaccine education and access before legislating a COVID-19 mandate in order to attend school. I appreciate Dr. Pan’s hard work to protect public health while also recognizing that the current data suggest it is not the time for this bill.
Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber Issues AB 1797 Myths vs. Facts
