SACRAMENTO, CA — Assemblymember Akilah Weber, M.D., (D-San Diego) released the following statement upon Governor Newsom signing Assembly Bill (AB) 1636 today. AB 1636 seeks to maintain confidence in the medical profession by ensuring a physician’s conviction of sexual misconduct with a patient result in a permanent lost license with no ability for it to be reinstated.

Assemblymember Weber Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Overturn Roe v Wade

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) issued the following statement in response to Supreme Court Decision overturning Roe v. Wade: “I’m greatly saddened by the decision of the Supreme Court to turn back the clock on women today. Reproductive care is health care and millions of women will be harmed by this decision. We know that abortions will not stop but safe abortions will be unavailable in numerous states, putting women’s lives at risk. The greatest burden will be carried by low income and women of color.”

Assemblymember Weber Hosts 7th Annual Perfect Attendance Ceremony For San Diego Students at SeaWorld

SAN DIEGO, CA— Today, Assemblymember Akilah Weber, M.D. (D-79) hosted the 7th Annual Perfect Attendance Ceremony at SeaWorld San Diego. In recognition of Attendance Awareness Month in September, each K-12 school district located in the 79th Assembly District were invited to an “attendance challenge.” At the end of the academic school year in June, students with perfect attendance for the entire year are rewarded with a special recognition ceremony and a free day of fun at SeaWorld San Diego.

Assemblymember Weber Statement on Governor Newsom’s Reproductive Health Package Funding

SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) issued the following statement: “Today, Governor Gavin Newsom announced his reproductive health package ahead of his May Revise to the state budget. I am elated that he has prioritized the urgency of protecting women’s reproductive health care by including $40 million in funding for my bill AB 2134, the California Abortion and Reproductive Equity Act. This bill and funding appropriation would provide grants to providers who offer reproductive and sexual health care to patients who lack coverage, assuring that our most vulnerable low income and communities of color have access to this essential care.
