We need to be vigilant

LA MESA —  A year after a large protest against police violence and racial injustice turned riotous in downtown La Mesa, community members, including state and local elected officials, said the work toward justice is not over.

Dr. Akilah Weber Takes Oath as Newest Assemblymember for the 79th District

(Sacramento) – Dr. Akilah Weber (D-San Diego) took the oath of office to serve as the Assemblymember for the 79th Assembly District today following a special election. California Secretary of State Shirley Weber administered the oath in the California State Capitol. Dr. Weber will represent California's 79th Assembly District, which includes the cities of Bonita, Chula Vista, La Mesa, Lemon Grove, National City and San Diego.

 “I am deeply honored to represent the 79th Assembly District in Sacramento,” said Dr. Weber. “My focus will be on creating healthier communities for everyone who lives and works in the 79th district while working to create an equitable and prosperous California”.

Dr. Weber is a board-certified obstetrician/gynecologist & founder and director of the Pediatric & Adolescent Gynecology Division at Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego. Prior to her election to the Assembly, she served as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at UCSD.

Dr. Weber has served on the La Mesa City Council. Dr. Weber, and her husband, Dennis, live in La Mesa, with their boys, Kadir and Jalil, and their rescue dog, Shaka. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Incorporated.
