Assemblymember Weber Holds Legislative Briefing on Restorative Justice Act

Thursday, April 14, 2016

(Sacramento) – California State Assemblymember Shirley Weber (D-San Diego) convened a legislative briefing at the State Capitol in Sacramento to address her legislation, Assembly Bill 2590 – the Restorative Justice Act. Instead of relying solely on incareration, restorative justice allows an offender to accept responsibility for a crime and try to make amends. AB 2590 is a modest step to shift away from punishment only and encourages the Department of Corrections to provide opportunities for education and rehabilitation for all inmates, not just non-violent offenders. Watch this Assembly Access Video to hear some of Assemblymember Weber’s comments at the legislative briefing, as well as testimony from some of the experts who attended.
